4 reasons to move about Madrid on a motorbike

Travel tips

Madrid graffiti

1. Due to the fact that Madrid refuses to enforce a national no-parking-on-the-pavement law, you can park wherever you please (see photo above).

2. It’s fun. Video game fun in fact, as you weave between incensed traffic-bound car drivers.

3. It’s fast. Faster than any other form of transport in fact. Everywhere is suddenly 15 minutes away max.

4. It feels pretty cool. Here you are, in Spain, on a moto. Better than the sweaty old Metro any day!

Want to try it out for yourself? Pepemoto rents 125cc scooters from 6 Euros a day to anyone who has held a valid car drivers licence for over 3 years.

I’ve been driving cars for over 25 years and I wouldn’t trust myself driving a moto around a busy city without *some* training. How many accidents must there be involving people on Pepemoto bikes?

Lots I should think! When I picked up my scooter from the shop here I had no idea what I was doing and immediately had to cross busy Atocha roundabout. It was terrifying… but two hours later I was haring around the city with a big grin on my face!

I have been told that bikers can use the bus line, seems helpful for the fearful, though i do not see much bikers in there.

It is true, and very useful when they aren’t stuffed up with buses…
